This holiday season I took a trip back to Milwaukee to see family and friends for the holidays and to recharge for my last 10 months in Morocco.
It was wonderful to see all my family and a lot of my friends. The two weeks involved a lot of great conversations and delicious food. I got to hit up all my favorite Milwaukee spots and spend some quality time with my family’s new dog (Jazz, from a cocker spaniel rescue organization: http://cockerrescue.net/)
I’m back in Issafen now, and excited for the next few months of projects. Meredith is starting a region-wide library competition in March and I’ll be starting my women’s empowerment training program throughout the months of February and March. We’re also hoping to get some murals up on the walls of the youth center and women’s center in the next few weeks. A new unit of volunteers are coming in about a week and a half and with most volunteer’s youth and women’s centers closing at the end of May/beginning of June, the end is in sight. It’s surreal to think that I entered into this over a year ago and I’ll be ending it in around 10 months. Once our programs start up, I can only imagine the next few months are going to fly, and I’ll be starting to make arrangements for moving back to the USA in the fall.
I hope everyone has a wonderful New Year and had a great holiday season. Rose is sporting a new plaid sweater and I luckily was able to return to Morocco with a plethora of American goodies.
